Danny MacAskill April 2009

Filmed in and around Edinburgh, this video of Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill features probably the best collection of street/street trials riding ever seen. There’s some huge riding, but also some of the most technically difficult and imaginative lines you will ever see. Without a doubt, this video pushes the envelope of what is perceived as possible on a trials bike.

Thanks to XW for sending me this awesome video!

Issues with large GPS KML files

处理太大的GPS KML文件 中文

GPSBabel

GPS is great when you’re doing outdoor activities, but coming back to your computer, it’s sometimes a little bit tricky to use the output data, in my case, namely the KML / KMZ file.

Indeed, the GPS terminal records coordinates, altitude & other info each X seconds. It means that if you record your track for a time with a high rate recording frequency, your KML file is going to include thousands of points

Everything is fine with Google Earth when you import your KML file, but some issues appear when you wanna import it in Google Maps (for instance, the tracks will split in several parts).
Indeed, if your KML polygons have too many points, the file will be too big for Google Maps.
Only one solution: reduce the number of points (and coordinates).

Here comes GPSBabel.

GPSBabel converts waypoints, tracks, and routes between popular GPS receivers and mapping programs. It also has powerful manipulation tools for such data.
For instance, in order to reduce the number of coordinates, you just have to apply one of the filters:

It’s free and it works under Windows, MacOS and Linux!

Rollerskating in Zhèjiāng

Filed under: Rollerskating, Shanghai, China, Trips, Biking — atomicskate @ 10:34 pm — 3171 Views

As I can’t throw away traditions, I write this post… very late ;-)
For our second rollerskating trip, we’ve chosen to go back to 莫干山 (Mògānshān) on the first day, and then to try two new places around 天荒坪镇 (Tiānhuāngpíng village).
It was on October 11th and 12th.

Freedom of space

Filed under: Rollerskating, China, Biking — atomicskate @ 4:32 pm — 1570 Views

Ok, this video is talking about skateboard, but it could be enlarge to rollerskate, BMX & MTB, stunt…

Hope that one day, local authorities (I don’t speak specifically about China, but everywhere all over the world!…) would understand what is said on this video ;-)
The narrator is true: when you’re a rider, you look at the cities as an experiencing environment: stairs, walls, handrails, gaps, …
"Public space" just doesn’t have the same meaning.
