The previous rumors are coming true: announced at today’s Where 2.0 conference, Google has added a feature called “Street View” in certain locations on Google Maps. Also, Google is adding developer-created gadgets callled “Mapplets” to Google Maps starting today.
Street View
“Street View” displays an interactive panorama photo for certain locations on Google Maps. Note to get this to work outside the US, you need to add “&gl=us” at the end of the search URL. Below are screenshots for a search for 94111 (that’s San Francisco). Camera icons and blue lines indicate the availability of Street View data.

Two weeks ago, our bi-weekly Shanghai Rollerskating ride by night gathered more than 35 riders rambling in the city streets (here are the pictures and the slideshow!). It was really awesome!
This Wednesday, May 30th, I suggest to do it again; this time, thru the former French concession, up to ZhongShan Park!
Hereafter are the details for the next session:

The Eastern culture emanates a unique charm as a result of its rich heritage and enduring history. In recent years it is captivating even more attention: as a result, an Eastern-styled naming trend is appearing in the Western world.
No doubt you are familiar with the game of Sudoku. This 9×9 matrix number game has captured the hearts of millions of fans world-wide. But you may not realize that this game had been published in the United States as early as the 1970’s by Dell Puzzle Magazine. Initially named Number Place, it remained indistinguishable among thousands of number related games and therefore did not gain popularity. In 1984, Japanese puzzle group Nikoli discovered the game, brought it to Japan and gave it the name Sudoku. In March 1997, this game caught the attention of a New Zealand visitor to Japan who quickly became infatuated with it. In the six years following, he has developed many related software and websites for this game, propelling it to its Western fan base.

On May 15th, Taiwan launched a series of live military exercises designed to thwart an attack from arch-rival China, amid concerns that some of the military’s aircraft were too old and poorly maintained.
The drill was aimed at simulating an alternative location where fighter jets could re-equip if the island’s air bases were destroyed by Chinese attacks.
The live military exercise marked the second stage of the larger annual Han Kuang (汉光) — or Chinese Glory — exercise. The first stage of the Han Kuang exercise involved mostly virtual drills, and recently wrapped up after about a month.

Last week it was May holidays, but it was also the venue of the Asian X-Games in Shanghai!
Nice contest even if the rain has disturbed sometimes. Here are some pictures I’ve taken.
So, I hope that this event has motivated you, and that you will join us for our bi-weekly Shanghai Rollerskating ride by night this Wednesday, May 16th! Hereafter are the details for the next session:

It’s unusual to read articles about street sports in Shanghai nightlife magazines, but City Weekend did it, and SH did it about BMX!
City Weekend has listed good spots/shops/contacts for BMX, Climbing, Rollerskating (our bi-weekly ride by night is mentioned!), Paragliding and Biking.
On the other hand, SH has interviewed BMX-addicted George (from Australia) and Jason (from Shanghai) about their experiences in China, and how they see evolution of these kind of sports here.
They also speak about SMP skatepark, and how it is disproportionate compared to the number of serious riders in Shanghai…
These stories were published on the side of the Asian X-Games, held last week in our city
Here it is:

Actually, it’s no more a "hot news", but I’ve just read it last week and I wasn’t aware of that…
China is testing a potential rival to WiMax, based on SCDMA (still used in China in the 400-MHz band) the technology is known as Multicarrier Wireless Internet Local Loop (McWill). It has been in field trials in a few Chinese cities, including Guangzhou and Qingdao, where it has been used for video, voice and data communications.
The most recent trial, in Qingdao, where Olympic sailors will compete in 2008, tested the relay of race information back to shore. "We hope the Olympics will be the first commercial deployment," said Wen Bin, from Xinwei Telecom Technology.

As we can read on their Official website, The Cure has confirmed their coming to Japan on July 27th!!!
It’s their first concert in Asia since… 23 years!
Damned great news for all Asian fans!
All the info are on the Fuji Rock Festival ‘07 website:
http://www.smash-uk.com/frf07
Other great bands like The Chemical Brothers, Less Than Jake, Kemuri… will perform as well (popular bands like Muse, Iggy Pop… will be also there).
And I’m really more more more happy when I also read that 3 other concerts are still pending:
- Hong Kong, on July 30th

- Singapore, on August 1st
- Australia (no date)
So we will maybe have the chance to see The Cure in China (OK lads, Hong Kong is not China mainland, but, anyway, I think that’s a good start!!!).
By the way, I think that the only suitable place for a concert in China mainland is… Beijing!
And, as Beijing is not so far away from Japan and from Hong Kong, it’s not unrealistic to think about a venue in China mainland, isn’t it?
So, why not set up a kind of counting for those who also would like to welcome The Cure in China?
Please feel free to comment on that hereafter!!!
