How to upgrade your Chinese D-Link DI-624+A to English?

Filed under: Tech corner, China — atomicskate @ 6:52 pm — 1609 Views

UPDATED on May 1st, 2007 - I’ve bought a Chinese D-Link DI-624+A and even if the user interface in not so complex, I think that it’s easier to have the English version
DI-624+A Rev. A2 or DI-524 Rev.B ???But that’s not so easy to upgrade the firmware from a Chinese version to an English one…

As I didn’t find anything on the web, I’ve finally found it by myself and I will explain the procedure hereafter. Maybe it would be useful for some of you!

Accurate references:
Chinese D-Link DI-624+A Wireless Router 802.11g/2.4GHz
Firmware Version: CN V2.03
FCC ID: KA2-DI524
Revision: A2

Actually, the trick is that the Asian DI-624+A Rev. A2 is the European DI-524 Rev.B!

Step #1:
So, you first need to go to the D-Link Taiwanese website and follow their instructions (everything is clearly explained, as your current interface is in Chinese, and even if you’re not able to read it, you’ll be able to do it in a few minutes).
Here is a backup copy of the firmware.

After this step, if you go to Tools>Firmware, you will have the following info:

Current Firmware Version: V2.03
Firmware Date: Fri, Dec 09 2005

Step #2 (UPDATE: you can possibly go directly to Step #3):
The last step is to upgrade your router with the latest English firmware.
Just go here, then select "DI" in the left rolling menu and "524" in the right one.
On the next page, click on the "DI-524 B1" link.
Finally, click on the line "Firmware v2.04/ 2006-04-28".
Here is a backup copy of the firmware.

After this step, if you go to Tools>Firmware, you will have the following info:

Current Firmware Version: V2.04
Firmware Date: Fri, Apr 28 2006

Step #3:

I’ve recently discovered a newer English firmware (only available on DLink Australia website).
Just click here to download the BIN file.
Here is a backup copy of the firmware.

After this step, if you go to Tools>Firmware, you will have the following info:

Current Firmware Version: V2.04Patch05
Firmware Date: Mon, Feb 26 2007

It’s done!!!

  2. uuuh… I remind u that we’ve spent the last night eating French cheese and drinking French wine!!! So, talking about how to upgrade the Chinese D-Link DI-624+A to English was not an appropriate discussion

About the way I’ve found it, a good start was here:
    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,17999647
    But it was not enough…
So, as u said, I’ve tried a lot of firmwares…
