Here is a a test allowing you to estimate how many Chinese characters you know.
I advise you to choose the evaluation on 72 characters, it will take you around 15 minutes.

I’ve just did it, on the "Low intermediate" level (with 72 characters), and the applet has estimated that I know… 460 汉子! (Score: 25/36 for the frequent characters (***) and 18/36 for the less usual one (**)).

  1. I got 2422 on the top level…I guess it’s a bad result regarding my long years of studies… where was I during class?I better go now, go review my Chinese lessons!!!

  2. Well, I got 827 marks on the upper intermediate level after five and a halft months of full time studies. According to the survey  I should be happy…. but damn, we needed a 2000 Chinese characters, only to be able to read easy texts…. not to mention to understand them…. that will take another ten years of full time studies….  But we never ever get up, do we?
